The ministry of lands has recovered several documents at the concluded two weeks exercise in Kwale land offices including 1,574 green cards, 197 title deeds and 65 white cards.
Land cabinet secretary Charity Ngilu made the announcement on Thursday when she officially opened Kwale lands offices for the public after inspecting the work done by land officials.
The ministry also recovered 100 title deeds from Makueni County.
Ngilu said they also found 3,393 uncollected title deeds, 182 forged green cards and 2 forged title deeds.
“We have total parcel files opened to a tune of 28,541, court cases in the registry are 687, total no of parcel files we have here is 44,044,” she added.
She urged those who have not collected their title deeds to do so quickly since the documents are now available.
“This is why no one opposed closure of the offices here like other areas because I was getting reports that there were poor services, locals kept for a long time and documents not being found,” said Ngilu.
She said they have realized that some areas in Kwale have double allocation of land and others allocating themselves more parcels of land than others noting that it will be dealt with.
“Such title will be kept until we do our audit. Title deeds were also given to under 18 in some parts of Kwale and any case of that nature will be revoked for title to be given to the right people,” she said.
Ngilu was categorical that anyone who was in office and allocated themselves more pieces of land and more title especially the settlement scheme will be looked at.
